Nebby Vodka

Brand & Packaging Concept Project

Pitch: “Create a vodka that uniquely  fits the Pittsburgh market while still having potential for outside markets”

Nebby [neh-bee]
Definition: Nosy, snoopy, inquisitive. Used as an adjective or noun.

Pittsburgh is a city full of colloquial “yinz-isms”. Nebby is personaly one of my favorites as I am, admittedly, pretty nosy myself… That is naturally where this brand identity started. I wanted to match the pitch request of making something uniquely Pittsburgh by using a locally known phase but by using one with a snappy, easy to remember, fun name. Something that most definitely can pass the test of being understandable even when screaming it to a bartender at Tequila Cowboy while Toby Keith is blasting over the speakers.

I wanted to create a mascot for this brand that could both evoke a sneaking curiosity as well as represent Pittsburgh’s naturally eclectic population. To accomplish the latter I went with flexible abstract shapes that could be cropped and moved and recolored to represent a multitude of different things from flavors to emotion. For the former – we remove any other form of sense and focus only on sight. While this is a product for taste – for a category like vodka that is saturated with brands and most consumers already have their go-to, I felt it was important to create a visual that would be curiously different that consumers would be drawn to pick up a bottle.
